Twenty years in the making, Corrie Seagroves finally joined the Triangle Smart Divorce Team after a wide-ranging, somewhat eclectic legal career that took her the Balkans to the Triangle, with quite a few stops in between. 

Originally from Wisconsin, Corrie attended the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, where she graduated with Highest Honors. She then attended Vanderbilt University School of Law and graduated in the top 10% of her class. 

Then things got interesting. 

Corrie began her legal career as an Army JAG officer at Fort Drum, home of the 10th Mountain Division. From there, she went to Bosnia-Herzegovina during the United Nations intervention, where she served as a Senior Defense Counsel. Next came Fort Gordon in Georgia, where she litigated complex military cases throughout the Southeast while also training and supervising other attorneys and paralegals. 

In 2001, Corrie returned to the Triangle, where she developed her love of family law.  Within a few years, Corrie became the Lead Litigation Attorney at a large family law firm where she was responsible for litigation and the attorneys handling it. That kind of intense, everyday exposure to family law led her to two conclusions that have stuck: she loves going to court, and she loves working directly with Clients. 

There is also something about complicated cases that suits her. 

Corrie works extensively with Clients whose divorces involve substantial or unusual assets, including closely held businesses, trusts, executive compensation packages, stock options, high incomes, and assets held overseas. She understands that when the financial picture gets complicated, the details matter. A lot. 

Her military background also gives Corrie a valuable perspective when representing military families in divorce. She understands military life from the inside as well as the legal issues that can make military divorce different from a civilian case. 

Fortunately, complicated doesn’t scare Corrie much. 

Neither does a courtroom. 

Corrie has substantial litigation experience and is comfortable taking a case to court when that is where it needs to go. But all those years of litigation have also taught her that knowing how to fight and knowing when to fight are two very different things. 

That combination comes through in the way Clients describe working with her. Corrie can be a fierce advocate without adding more chaos to an already difficult situation. She listens. She stays steady. She figures out what matters and what needs to happen next. 

One former Client described Corrie as “the calm in my disorder.”  We think that says quite a bit. 

Corrie knew Triangle Smart Divorce founder Jenny Bradley for twenty years before TSD was even a distant twinkle in Jenny’s eye. Somehow, they always suspected they would eventually work together. 

It just took them a couple of decades to get around to it. 

Outside the office, Corrie enjoys traveling and fly fishing, two activities that conveniently work very well together. And although North Carolina has long been home, some Wisconsin loyalties survived the move. She is still a die-hard Green Bay Packers fan. She also cheers for the Tar Heels and the Hurricanes, so there is rarely a shortage of something to watch. 

Corrie has spent her career handling complicated problems in complicated places. So when a case demands experience, strategy, and a steady hand, she is very much in her element and exactly who you want in your corner.
