Kitty Carlsten notices things. 

She knows what snacks are running low in the office, which drinks everyone likes, and, somehow, who has strong opinions about particular pens. 

More importantly, she notices what people need. 

That is a pretty good description of what a Client Relations Coordinator does at Triangle Smart Divorce. 

Kitty is the person thinking about all the non-legal ways we can make life a little easier for our Clients before, during, and even after their case. She thinks about what someone might need when they come into our office, what we can send to a Client going through a particularly difficult time, and which small touches might make someone feel a little more cared for. 

And when a case ends, Kitty doesn’t necessarily disappear. 

We believe our relationship with Clients shouldn’t automatically end when their legal case does. Kitty helps us stay connected, checking in with former Clients and helping them find resources for whatever comes next. If someone needs a therapist, financial professional, real estate agent, or another trusted resource, Kitty can help provide options from the referral network TSD has built throughout the Triangle. 

Sometimes what someone needs after divorce has nothing to do with a lawyer. 

Kitty understands that particularly well because caring for people has been the common thread throughout her career. Before joining TSD, she worked in education, first as a teacher and later developing curriculum and resources for children and families. She communicated closely with parents, led professional development, and helped coordinate everything from school programs to large family events. 

She graduated magna cum laude from the University of South Carolina with a degree in Early Childhood Education. While family law was new territory when she came to TSD, helping people and building relationships most definitely were not. 

These days, Kitty splits her time between Client relations, marketing, and helping keep the office running. She also has a particular talent for event planning and somehow always knows the extra detail that will make something feel special rather than simply planned. 

That instinct is really the common denominator in everything Kitty does. She pays attention. She remembers. And she genuinely cares whether the person on the other side of the interaction feels taken care of. 

Outside the office, Kitty loves photography, thrifting, and coffee enough to have earned the unofficial role of TSD coffee connoisseur.  She also spends plenty of time with her dog, Leo, who is always up for joining her on whatever adventure she has planned next. He presumably has his own strong opinions about snacks, but has yet to weigh in on the office pens. 

The TSD office has no shortage of sports fans, but thanks to Kitty, the arts have a pretty strong advocate here too. She loves experiencing art in all its forms, traveling around North Carolina to see what other people are creating and making plenty of her own. For Kitty, art is one of her favorite ways to connect with the community around her, whether she is behind the camera, creating something herself, or simply showing up to appreciate someone else’s work. 

Kitty’s job can be difficult to fit neatly into a title because it involves a little bit of everything. 

Maybe the simplest explanation is this: the Legal Team helps our Clients through their legal case. Kitty spends her time thinking about everything else we can do to help along the way, and after.
