There are a lot of ways someone can find a divorce lawyer. A Google search at 2 a.m. A video that answers a question they were afraid to ask. A recommendation from a therapist, financial advisor, or friend.

Mackenzie Gokey spends a lot of time thinking about all of them.

As Director of Marketing at Triangle Smart Divorce, Mackenzie leads the firm’s marketing strategy with one goal at the center of it: making sure the people who need our help can find us, understand what makes TSD different, and feel comfortable taking the next step.

How she gets them there changes constantly.

On any given day, Mackenzie may be thinking about SEO, reviewing a digital campaign, planning a video series, working with the media, building a referral relationship, or figuring out what AI has changed about legal marketing since approximately yesterday.

Fortunately, she likes the moving target.

Mackenzie has spent much of her career building marketing departments and prefers having a hand in both the big-picture strategy and the details that make it work. At TSD, that means overseeing everything from digital marketing, content, and public relations to community involvement, Client engagement, and referral relationships.

But for Mackenzie, good legal marketing has never been just about getting someone to click a button or make a phone call.

Hiring a family law firm can be intimidating. TSD’s marketing should make it less so.

That means creating resources that answer real questions, explaining complicated topics in ways people can actually understand, and helping prospective Clients get to know the Team they would be trusting with an incredibly personal part of their lives. It also means thinking about how TSD can continue to educate, connect with, and support Clients before, during, and after their case.

Sometimes marketing helps someone decide to hire TSD. Sometimes it helps someone make a smarter decision before they are ready to hire anyone. Both count.

Mackenzie’s role reaches throughout the firm, working closely with TSD’s attorneys and Team on the Client experience, new initiatives, and the firm’s long-term growth. She also leads TSD’s marketing Team, making sure a lot of different ideas, channels, and projects are all moving toward the same goal.

Mackenzie is also actively involved with the Legal Marketing Association at both the local and national level, giving her the opportunity to learn from and collaborate with legal marketers across the country and bring new ideas back to TSD.

We’re also honored to have Mackenzie on the Team because it’s not every day an owner of an iconic professional sports franchise joins a family law firm.

Mackenzie is a Green Bay Packers owner.

Granted, there are hundreds of thousands of other owners, the shares pay no dividends, and they cannot be traded on any exchange. Triangle Smart Divorce nevertheless maintains, and always will, that an owner of the Green Bay Packers works here.

Mackenzie grew up spending summers and holidays in Wisconsin and still makes her way back regularly. She is, unsurprisingly, a huge Wisconsin Badgers fan. She is also, obviously, loyal to her alma mater, NC State. She rationalizes the potential conflict by pointing out that Wisconsin and NC State have been playing sports since the 1890s and have somehow managed to avoid one another, meeting only three times in basketball and never in football.

She attended one of those rare basketball matchups wearing simply a red shirt…Diplomacy is also a marketing skill.

Outside the office, Mackenzie reads, runs, and plays tennis. She has a dog, Rooney, who Mackenzie considers objectively perfect, and a cat, Portabella, whose performance review would be considerably more complicated.

Mackenzie and her husband also make it a tradition to watch every Oscar-nominated Best Picture each year. Just don’t bring up Green Book winning in front of them. They’re still not over A Star Is Born being robbed.

And, like Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson, Mackenzie dreams of returning to Bruges someday.

Until then, she’ll be here, keeping an eye on what Google changed, what AI changed because Google changed, and what Clients actually need from us.

Because the platforms will keep changing. The goal doesn’t: helping the right people find TSD when they need us and making it a little easier for them to take the next step.
